Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) September 28, 2009 – October 1st, 2009 marks the one year anniversary of the implementation of the new citizenship test. Most immigrants who take the test find it to be more difficult than its predecessor. It’s so hard, in fact, most natural born American citizens would fail it. Citizenship Coach™ is here to help. With the motto “You can pass the citizenship test. We can help!” they do indeed: Of the many thousands of immigrants who have used Citizenship Coach’s products and services, not a single one has failed the test yet.

How can Citizenship Coach help immigrants pass the citizenship test?

To keep up with the implementation of the new citizenship test, Citizenship Coach has developed new innovations that are helping U.S. immigrants study and pass the test. The company’s online citizenship test class named SurePass™ is available 24/7. It is reviewed by Immigrant Community Examiner and others as one of the best and most innovative tools available today for immigrants who wish to become naturalized U.S. citizens. By using streaming videos, SurePass helps immigrants learn the 100 new citizenship test questions online and learn how to answer them correctly word by word, verbally – all without having to drive to a class. The online program has been very popular since its debut in 2008 because it is effective, convenient, and easy to use, especially for the non-web savvy users, to practice the citizenship test at their own comfort at home.

And now, Citizenship Coach is even giving back
For each product sold or a SurePass registration, a portion of all profit is being donated to various charities in an effort to help children and families around the world. These donations will be made through the American Redcross, WorldVision, Unicef and Huong Di. Timothy Nguyen, the founder of Citizenship Coach, said: “I came to this country as a poor person, from a poor family, with only $17 dollars my Grandmother gave me. In this land of abundant prosperity I found an education, a great job, and unlimited opportunities to serve. My fellow immigrants and I are called to continue the great charitable tradition of this country, and we are honored to do that.”

When purchasing a citizenship test CD, DVD, Mp3, or a simple study guide, Citizenship Coach’s customers are helping a child in Africa, Asia or in a remote part of the world. For example, last year Citizenship Coach helped build a small house for a poor family in Vietnam. This year they plan to triple that.

Immigrants are helping themselves

Through the company’s website, they are offering the largest collection of the translated version of the new citizenship questions and answers in 15 different languages, such as Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Amharic, Oromo, Rusian, French, Tagalog…, even more than the USCIS — and they’re all free to download . This collection is growing fast as more immigrants volunteer to translate the English citizenship questions into their own languages, and then share with their communities via this popular website. All products are designed with the advice, input and the recommendations of many citizenship teachers, immigration lawyers, and past customers. Nguyen said, “They’re helping themselves and helping others at the same time. It only happens in this country, and it’s a beautiful thing!”

The way they study is good for the WRITTEN test, but bad for the ORAL test.

If English is your mother tongue, then how your learn may not matter. However, for ESL students, the way they learn does affect the result. When they learn from books or a DVD, they are more likely to succeed in written tests. However, the citizenship interview is an oral test, conducted face-to-face, meaning that the students don’t see the questions at all. The ability to listen to a question, understand it, and answer it correctly — all without looking at the printed questions — is crucial. Citizenship Coach says being not ready for an oral test is the #1 reason why immigrants fail their citizenship interviews.

So, what to avoid? Which is the right way to learn?

You must avoid studying for the citizenship interview from just books or DVDs… or other ways in which you can see the questions and answers. Of course, you must see the questions first. But after that, you should study one-on-one with a friend or a teacher, or online classes with video from SurePass Citizenship Test Online (if you can afford it – $9 to 20/month – then this is the best way. See why below.)

Here are some great methods:

  • Study with a friend: Ask you friend who speaks English well to ask you the questions, one by one, randomly, and you try to answer without looking at the questions. The goal is to put mind in that interview environment as much as possible so you can get ready mentally.
  • Study in Class with a teacher: If you can drive to a local class, your teacher will train you to listen and answer the questions.

Study in the comfort of your home, online. SurePass helps immigrants get ready for the citizenship interview via the internet.

  • Study online with SurePass Citizenship Test Online: This is the better option since it combines the 2 method I’ve just mentioned above. Created by Citizenship Teachers for ESL citizenship students like you. You can study at home or anywhere with internet access. Everybody is busy. Study with SurePass, you don’t have to drive to a class every week, or ask for help from your friends.

SurePass has one video for each question. So, if you don’t have a friend to ask you the questions, you can play the question videos and learn to listen to the interviewer, just like a real interview with a USCIS officer. If you don’t know how to answer, or want to know how a word is pronounced, you can play the answer video and it will show you exactly word by word.

Most people think the new citizenship test is harder than the old one, especially those who have limited English. As a citizenship teacher, I believe you need a new way to learn for the new citizenship questions. Let’s take a look at some traditional ways:

  1. Study with Books: This is probably the most boring way to learn today. Imagine reading through a 200-page book! You can do that if you love to read and plan to be a scholar after your citizenship test. Because the test is oral — you won’t see the questions, you can only listen — make sure you understand the questions just by listening to them, which means you have to find a partner who helps read the questions to you. Less and less people are actually learning with books these days.
The best thing about Books: Lots of information, very well organized.
Cost: $15-$35 (you can buy used books for less, but they may have old information)
  2. Study with CDs: This is better than studying with a book. Of course, if you can listen to the CD while reading a study guide, then that’s even better. A lot of people choose this option if their English skill is above average.
The best thing about CDs: You can listen to the audio CD almost anywhere today.
Cost: $15-$40 -cheaper CDs are probably don’t have true voice – (Read: How to choose the best Citizenship CD)
  3. Study with DVDs: Ah-ha! This is getting a little more interesting. You see visual information, which helps you remember the lessons faster and longer. However, when it comes to doing practice test, you can do a very limited number of tests that were originally created for the DVD. This means that you will not be fully prepare for the real test. Be aware also that most DVDs being sold the market (especially used one) have outdated/old information. Production of DVD tends to be expensive, therefore producers often recycle old content and “slap” a new cover design on the DVD. So, make sure you see previews of the DVDs before you buy. DVD is the most expensive way to learn.
The best thing about DVDs: You get to see a real person teaching you the lessons and asking the questions, just like in a real interview.
Cost: $15-$60 (cheaper DVDs are not worth buying)
  4. Study in Class, with an instructor: If you’re willing to drive to a formal class every week and study with a citizenship instructor like me, then this is the best option for you.
The best thing about Class: Your teachers and classmate can conduct mock-interviews, in which they ask the questions and you answer – Just like in a real interview.
    Cost: $FREE-$90 (4-week to 3-month course)
  5. SurePass - Online Citizenship Test Class

Citizenship Test audio CD for the new citizenship test

Citizenship Test audio CD for the new citizenship test

According to surveys conducted by Citizenship Coach – the premier online citizenship test resource – below are the top 5 questions that citizenship candidates have trouble answering correctly:

5. There were 13 original states. Name three.
Reason: They have problems remembering the names of all the 13 original states.
Tips: Just try to remember the easiest answers: North Carolina, South Carolina, New York

4. When was the Declaration of Independence adopted?
Reason: Mistaken this question with “When was the Constitution written?”
(Silly) Tips: “Adopted” start with “A”, as in “Act now!”. Therefore it happens within a day (July 4, 1776) On the other hand, “Written” start with “W” as in “Wait!”. Therefore it happens in a year (1787). This tip sounds silly, but it helps.

3. Who is the Governor of your state? or Name your US Representative.
Reason: Lack of information, or study outdated information
Tips: Make sure to go to www.citizenshipcoach.com and click on the “Resources” tab, then scroll down and select your state to get the correct answer. This web page also gives you a link to go search for your Representative name by zip code.

2. We elect a U.S. Senator for how many years? or We elect a U.S. Representative for how many years?
Reason: Mistaking Senator for Representative and vs.
(Silly) Tips: Remember this: the person with the shorter title serves longer – I know, it’s silly… The word “Senator” is shorter than the word “Representative”. So, Senators serve 6 years and Representatives serve only 2 years before they have to face election again.

1. Who was President during World War I? Who was President during the Great Depression and World War II?
Reason: Foreigners, especially those who come from Asia, have problems remembering American/European names.
(Silly) Tips: Woodrow Wilson can be remembered as “WWi” or “WW1” (turn “i” into “1”)

There you have them – the 5 most often incorrectly answered questions on the new citizenship test. Did we say those tips are “silly”? Each person has a different way to remember something. You can try them out to see if they work for you!

Official Citizenship Test CD with 215 ways the questions are asked in the naturalization exam

Official Citizenship Test CD with 215 ways the questions are asked in the naturalization exam

During the citizenship test, the questions are read to you. This means you must understand what a question is asking before you can answer it. For immigrants with very limited English, this is a big challenge! There was a gentleman from Vietnam named Nguyen. During the interview the officer asked him “How are you?”, the answered “I’m fifty one year old.” Do you know why? Nguyen thought the officer was asking about his age! That’s the simplest mistake a person can make during the interview.

As you already know, there are many ways to ask for the same information. For example, if you want to know who the President is, you can ask:

  • Who is the current President?
  • What is the name of our President?
  • The President… who is he?
  • Tell me who our President is?
  • Right now who is the President?
  • Do you know who our President is?
  • Who is Barack Obama?

To most immigrants, learning exactly 100 questions is just not enough. If the questions are asked slightly differently, they may not be able to answer. Adding the fact that most of them are really nervous during the test, a fail result may be predictable.

Therefore, the best way to learn for your naturalization exam is to learn as many ways the citizenship questions are asked as posible. Citizenship Coach has a perfect solution for this problem. They have a CD with 215 ways the questions are asked. These are the most popular ways you must know. They are absolutely helpful for immigrants with limited English. We strongly recommend this citizenship test CD. By the way, since these 215 questions are copyrighted, nobody can copy these questions and create a product out of them. Therefore, you can find them at Citizenship Coach website only.

In the next post, I’ll give some tips and tricks on how to avoid these mistakes and have a successful naturalization interview.

Is this your painful experience?

You do a search for citizenship CDs on Google or Yahoo. You saw ten different CDs that are offer for sale. You buy the cheapest one for under $10 … You said to yourself “Questions are questions, they’re all the same!” Your CD is delivered a week later as promised. You say “A ha! Let’s pop it in and learn right now!” You listen to your new CD. Then with a thunder scream, you say “Oh my goodness, it sounds like a robot! I didn’t know it sounded like this!!! Awww… ”

By now you should know that you’re a victim of some businesses trying to make quick money on poor unsuspected immigrants. Here’s what they do normally: They take the official questions from the USCIS, copy and paste the text into a computer voice software program. That software programs then “spits” out an MP3. They get that MP3 and burn it to a CD, put a label on it, then ship that CD to you! Aha! You now have a CD audio that was read by a computer!

But now you want to return it and get your money back, right? “Sure, we’ll get it back, no problems! Just send it back!” They said! You’re somewhat happier now. It costs you $2 to send it back and 15 minutes waiting at the post office. Then you sit and wait for the refund money. It’s been a month…

By now, you should know that your CD and money are gone.

So, how to avoid such a painful lesson? Beside common sense tricks like “it’s too good to be true…” or “You pay for what you get…” what else can you do to buy the right CD you need?

Tips to buy great Citizenship Test CD:

  • Make sure they give you samples to listen to. As far as I know (at the moment of writing this blog post) there are only 3 companies that offer free samples, one is Citizenship Coach.
  • Make sure the sample are taken from several parts of the CD. As far as I know, only 1 company that offers this type of samples – Citizenship Coach
  • Make sure the sample is read by a true human voice. As far as I know, only 2 companies have their questions read by real human. One of them is, of course, Citizenship Coach.

Citizenship Coach goes the extra mile to make sure their customers get the best of the best products at a very reasonable price. All the citizenship test audio product they’re selling in CD or downloadable format are read by real native speakers that are natural born American. In fact, they’re real Voice Artists. And in fact, a couple of them are actual Radio Anchors themselves. You can’t get better voice than that from any where.

Please note that some computer voice software programs do provide better voice. However, they don’t sound natural, or ever will be. Learning from these CD create by computers will do more harm than good to you.

It’s also important to note that you SHOULD learn from native speakers. There are CDs that are read by people with foreign accents… very hard to listen to, and will not help you with your study.

Citizenship Coach’s Citizenship Test CD is endorsed by citizenship teachers and loved by many immigrants who have used them. You should use them, too!
